Dfc youth leaders

Above are our DFC Youth Leaders for the start of our 2024-2025 school year. This was right after our first meeting in person where the students created goals for themselves, the group, and their community. We are always accepting new youth to our group. If you are interested scroll to the bottom and fill out our interest form.

Pictures above are our DFC Youth Leaders, staff, and partners (EPD and Vista Community Clinic) just before we delivered educational packets and signs to over 200 dining establishments in order to educate them on the new Smoke Free Outdoor Dining Ordinance/Policy! Head over to our Escondido Ordinances page to learn more!

Pictured above are a few of our youth tabling at National Night Out 2022 back in August. The youth were in charge of our table and speaking to the community about who we are, what we do, and provide education on some of the drugs our local community may be exposed to. They also spoke to a few youth and asked them to join our team!

Our DFC youth leaders meet regularly on Monday’s, from 4:00pm- 5:30pm, via Zoom for the time being.

Our DFC youth leaders meet every Thursday, from 4:00pm- 5:30pm:

Sticker Shock Campaign

Our Drug Free Youth Leaders for Change, EPD, City Council members, coalition partners, media, and the Holiday Wine Cellar and other alcohol retailers, partnered for the first Sticker Shock event in over 10-years, prior to the Memorial Holiday weekend in 2022. A Sticker Shock campaign is a National campaign that aims to reduce underage drinking by limiting youth’s access to alcohol; specifically to inform adults and discourage them from buying alcohol for minors (those below 21-years of age).

During an event, youth and partners place stickers and window/bottle clings on alcohol cases and products at local alcohol retailers. Our youth leaders designed the stickers by themselves and we also developed posters/window clings to share with retailers for an ongoing reminder to not drive under the influence, that this alcohol retailer does not sell to minors, in addition to the messaging tailored to those over 21 to not purchase alcohol for minors.

CA State laws prohibits minors (those under the age of 21) from purchasing, possessing, or consuming alcohol or marijuana. Illegal sale of alcohol to minors can be prevented! Help us spread the message that it is illegal to:

  • Purchase or provide alcohol for minors

    • Did You Know: Escondido has a Social Host Ordinance? If you provide alcohol or marijuana to a minor at your private residence, you could be fined. If you suspect that minors are drinking and/or smoking marijuana at a house party, please call to report it! There is also a Students Speaking Out Hotline: 888-580-8477.

  • Use a fake ID to purchase alcohol for minors
